Sweet and sour sauce
(1/1)
harmony:
I created this after a lot of trial and error, looking for a way to satisfy my sweet and sour cravings.
* 8 barhi (or similar type) dates
* Juice of 1 lemon & 1 limePut ingredients in a bowl and squish the dates into the juice with the back of a spoon (may be easier with a mortar and pestle) until it all emulsifies into a thick sauce. It's great as a dip for your favorite non-sweet fruits and veggies. Sometimes I like to wrap up slices of cucumber, red bell pepper, and mango inside a leaf of green lettuce or baby bok choy, and dip into the sauce. Other times, I like to dip these things into the sauce on their own. It's a nice rare treat for something different.

Hey I've tried this one before! Great with chopped apples. The date sauce is like sticky caramel! Great contribution, Harmony! :)

littleviolet,
I do realize that from a Hygiene point of view, it is not a "proper combination". However, it does not give me any trouble. I think combos are better guided by personal preference. If something works for me and I like it, I will eat it. If it doesn't, then I will not eat it. Pretty simple. :) I prefer to follow my own body rather than someone else's set of rules.
These days, I prefer that sauce made with OJ as it is less sour.
Have a great day!
Harmony
